What a beautiful piece of reminiscence Pete. I must have been at the City game (4-2) loss that Tatey and you have been discussing. I was probably laughing with Pete H about you being in the posh end!

Lovely stuff. Haven’t seen today’s game yet as it doesn’t appear to have been shown today.

Great piece of writing.
Made me think of my mum, whose dying words were “Up the Blues”.
I’ve been a City fan since 1954 and have followed them faithfully thorough the crap times and the good, the latter I can just about remember.
I think City v Sunderland was the first FA cup match I ever saw. We won that one, only to lose (with 10 men) at Wembley to some gits wearing black and white.

Tatey, you are quite right. Misty eyed nostalgia gets in the way of reality once again. City did play well that day though. They had some cracking youngsters.

Pete, I played a trial game for Bradford Northern at Odsal. Had to walk down the terracing from the dressing rooms, good job I had long studs.

Pete, I’m a 42 yr old City fan and I picked this up on Newsnow.
Just wanted to say I loved your article it brought tears to my eyes.
I almost wish you’d won that 1988 game now, as such a personal moment deserved the quintessential ‘Hollywood’ ending.
Thanks for brightening up my day with such a delightful & personal memory.
