I first noticed him when we were playing Sheffield Utd at the SOL, a few years ago, and (as the match was not the best) paid more attention to the ref than I would normally do. He was superb! The way he calmed players down, whilst making it clear to anyone watching what he was doing and WHY was brilliant. Any ref can make a mistake but I cannot recall him making ANY important ones in ANY game that I have seen him officiate in. He commands respect from the players (you only had to see the way the Man U players treated him), does not wave cards around with abandon and allows games to "flow". For me, he is the best ref in the Premier League! I’ve thought, for many years, that Alan W does not get the credit he deserves.

I said to my neighbour in the next seat what a good match the ref was having and he agreed. This was one of the best refereed games I have seen in years. We have had some right idiots covering our matches who think that they are the stars but Mr Wiley showed just how it should be done. TOP MAN.
